OSU Master Gardener Rhianna Simes joins us in the garden to talk about mulching with leaves.
Here’s some of Rhianna’s suggestions:
Add fallen leaves to raised beds, gardens, and around trees/shrubs to feed the worms, retain moisture, and protect the soil from rain and cold temperatures.
Keep the leaf piles at least 3 inches away from the trunk of shrubs and trees, but leave some to fertilize the trees they came from! This is nature’s way of feeding and protecting the soil where the roots grow.
